Newton Recreation Commission — Located at 415 N. Poplar St.; phone: 283-7330. Hours: 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 5:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Fridays, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and 12:30 to 5 p.m. Sundays.

Municipal Pool at Athletic Park now open — Public swim hours: 1 to 5 p.m. daily and Family Swim, 7 to 9 p.m. weekdays.

Swimming lessons — Second session starts June 20 — For all ages. Group classes offer eight levels of instruction. Lessons can be taken at the Newton Activity Center Pool or the Newton Municipal Pool. Morning, evening or Saturday lessons available. Private lessons also are offered. For more information, call 283-7330.

Discovery Camp — 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays through Aug. 12. The center has planned a wide variety of activities planned, including swimming, library days, craft projects, Adventure Day trips and more for children ages 5 through 12. The program is a state-licensed day care and an SRS-approved program. Discovery camp will participate in the summer food program. Registration packets and medical release forms are required and are available at the Newton Activity Center front desk.

Toddler Gym Time — 10 to 10:45 a.m. Thursdays, June 9 through June 30. Let your toddler have fun while working on his or her listening skills. Participants will use balls, parachutes and silliness in this class. For ages 18 months through 4 years.

New class, Camp Cuisine — 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. June 13 through 17. Does your child like to hang out in the kitchen and help you cook? This new camp will expose children to food preparation, cooking instruction and table presentation. Each day is filled with kid friendly cooking projects and taste testing. A field trip to Prairie Harvest and participant-made cookbook are included. Friday includes a lunch for parents made by the participants. For ages 9 through 12 years old.

Challenger Sports British Soccer Camp — June 13 through 17. Skill levels and confidence will blossom following a week of individual footwork drills, fundamental technical practices and coached competitive play — all woven around a central theme of respect, responsibility, integrity, sportsmanship and leadership delivered with a captivating British twist. Children enjoy sports and games, arts and crafts and swimming, all within a Jewish context and led by Camp Directors from Israel.
