KNIB Photo Contest Underway
Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful works year round to keep the stateline clean.
Now it will accept photographs showing how that work is paying off.
The second photo contest kicks off today.
Nature's beauty can be difficult to write about... but a picture, is a snap. Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful's second photo contest kicks off today on nature photography day. Executive Director Lori Gummow says the group expanded its contest categories.
"We're looking for young, youth amateur photographers to try and capture the beauty of the Northern Illinois region."
Entrants will be split into adult and youth age brackets. Photos will be divided between nature and close up categories. Winning photo's will be placed in a book and used by K.N.I.B. That's why Gummow says each entry will be put under the microscope.
"Our judges are actually professional photographers, so they're going to be looking at it from a professional point of view so it's cool to get their opinions on the quality of the photos' being submitted."
Contest sponsor Camera Craft will accept the photo entries. Owner Tom Brady says you can even get some tips before attempting that winning shot.
"We're offering classes, one by Cannon and one by a local nature photographer."
Brady decided to sponsor the contest again... because of last years results.
"Very successful and well received and we're really working to showcase the beauty of our environment here, we have so many places, and trails, and parks."
With so many budding photographers, Brady says the nature contest fits right in.
"It's one of the most popular, if not the most popular hobby in the world, photography is very popular, and unlike languages, we speak 2,000, the world sees in one."

Russian photographers are invited to participate in a photo contest.
Organized by the State Darwin Museum in Moscow, the theme is the colors of nature.
Categories are nine colors: white, yellow, orange, red, purple, blue, green, brown and black. To qualify, half of the picture must contain one of these colors and the color must reflect nature.
The best entries will be exhibited in the State Darwin Museum.
