Marines Get Hands-On With Latest Combat Gear at Tactical Expo
Camp Pendleton Marines had the opportunity to try the latest combat and support equipment Wednesday at Expo held at ADS Tactical Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton.
The event, organized by the ADS defense contractor, has about 30 different vendors at Camp Pendleton who specialize in combat gear and logistical support ranging from socks to advanced night vision goggles and medical equipment.
"[The Marines] the opportunity to see the latest and greatest gear that is available to them," said ADS Western Regional Account Manager OJ Sosa."They see that the authorized gear, they can go out and purchase and use," he said.
On one side of the ballroom sat a man-sized model and hyper-realistic full medical with blood gushing, war wounds, and a realistic skin and bone structure. At other stands, the last knives, laser sights, military boots and sitting on the display.
Sgt. Alfred Nieto MHG with the first was one of many Marines in the event and was at a table showing anti-socks off moisture. "I'm very big on the feet," said Nieto. "I spend much time on them," he said.
Nieto also said that events such as Expo Wednesday tactics are a good way for Marines to see what is really practical to use on the battlefield.
"I think [Marines] need to be aware of what is out there," said Nieto. "Today, there are so many people so many different types of gear, now I know what I can find ".
ADS National Sales Manager Levi Wilson also praised the event and the ability of Marines to get practice with different equipment. "They can touch, they can feel, and they can see," he said.
