Dr Oz Show Investigates Longevity – How Old will you be when you die

(Best Syndication News) On Thursday’s Dr Oz show, Doctor Mehmet C Oz interviewed Jay, a 43-year old commissioned salesman. Besides determining how long Jay would live, he also gave him tips to improve his survival. The program also discussed the Glucomannan (konjac root fiber) supplement.

Jay was obese, had a family history of heard disease, ate the wrong food and drank beers every day. His lack of exercise and possible sleep apnea also weighed heavily on his mortality.

Jay’s wife said he has high cholesterol, acid reflux and has been diagnosed with Barrett's Esophagus, which is a precursor to esophageal cancer. She thinks he has sleep apnea because she hears him stop breathing at night. She is worried.

Doctor Oz said there was a new test to determine the probable age of death. A prediction for Jay was prepared based on a “novel new longevity calculator” that Northwest Mutual Life Insurance Company uses to determine life insurance premiums.

These issues are important:

Family History: How many relatives had heart disease before the age 55?

Exercise: Oz wanted to know how often he exercised. Vigorously every day, walk 30 minutes four times a week or never? Exercise can control blood pressure and stress.

Food: He asked Jay if he at 5 fruits or vegetables per day or does he eat processed / fast food regularly. Meat and processed food is a recipe for weight gain.

Alcohol: Oz asked Jay about alcohol. He said he drank 12 or 14 beers in a day on occasion if he wasn’t driving. People can lose six years of life if they drink more than 5 alcoholic beverages a day.

Doctor Oz gave Jay a battery of tests from Biophysical, a company which analyzes biomarkers in the blood. This included a test for organ dysfunction and diabetes. At the University of Texas Fitness Institute he received a full body assessment.

Jay was also tested for strength, endurance and flexibility. They found that most of his fat was visceral and impeded lung function. Jay also underwent a stress test at the New York-Presbyterian Hospital.

Even with the statin drugs for cholesterol, his LDL was 121. It should have been below 100. His C-reactive protein should have been under 1.0, but it was 4.1. This value predicts heart attack risk. His blood sugar was 119 and should have been under 100. His body mass index (BMI) was 36. Jay was obese.

Dr Oz opened the envelope to determine Jay’s predicted age of death. The analysis predicted a death-age of 57.

Exercise During Pregnancy, is it safe? pregnancy calculator

I was consider a high risk pregnancy also. The only exercise my doctor authorized was just walking and nothing else to be safe. Plus if you’re 13 weeks, you’re getting out of the danger zone, so you may want to ask your doctor if you can start running again. To be safe, I would say just keep walking. That’s what i’ve been doing…

32 Weeks pregnant

Answer by Shannon C i doubt exercising had anything to do with your miscarriage. it is safe and actually good to exercise when pregnant. just don’t over exert yourself or let your heart rate get too high. if you were exercising before you got pregnant than i say stick with it. it would be different if you wanted to start now and didn’t exercise before. if you are still concerned check with your ob/gyn.

I am wondering what a good solution is for exercise during my pregnancy. I was very active before the pregnancy, exercising several times per week, and participating in recreational sports too, now after a workout, my body is DRAINED and I don’t feel like I can continue the type of working out I used to be able to do.

Will going on daily, or every-other-day, walks be enough to keep my body in shape during my pregnancy?

I am in great shape, and my body doesn’t usually get “out of shape” fast, but I’ve never been pregnant so I don’t know what to expect.

Suggestions please!

I’m almost 13 weeks pregnant and trying to make sure I get enough exercise. I know that swimming can be a good way to exercise when pregnant because it is very low impact. I was just wondering if there is a “safe” amount of exercise. Meaning, how long can I swim before I should stop? I used to swim a LOT and can go for quite a while. I just don’t know where to draw the line so I don’t over do it.

Also, what kind of stretching is ok during pregnancy?

Any type of stretching is ok during pregnancy, but be careful with anything involving your belly. For example, back bends should be avoided. Listen to your body when it comes to exercising. If you can go for a really long time without getting tired, I’d stop at an hour and rest for a few minutes. If you feel like you can still keep going and want to keep going after a few minutes of rest, then keep going at smaller intervals, maybe 15-20 minutes at a time. You want to make sure that you are drinking plenty of fluids and eating enough b/c you will be burning lots of calories with the swimming, but baby needs those calories too!
