Trace toxins at Beasley Park not a big concern

The Ontario Ministry of the Environment has determined elevated levels of metal and organic compounds discovered below the Beasley Park’s surface five years ago do not pose a health risk to the community.

The city was alerted by the ministry June 30 that the risk assessment and record of condition for the site have been accepted.

This means it falls under the province’s standards as acceptable for parkland use, said Mike Bingham, the city’s source protection project manager.

There was “more than a trace” of the organic compound used in drycleaning found in the groundwater four metres below the ground, Bingham said.

The levels of metal and organic compounds were discovered in July 2006, when the site was proposed as the new location for Dr. J. Edgar Davey Elementary School.

That year, city experts determined the materials found were not a health hazard, but the city engaged in the provincial assessment afterward.

“The ministry’s top priority is making sure people’s health and the environment is protected,” MOE spokesperson Jennifer Hall said in an email. “We reviewed the site and it meets our stringent environment standards for parkland use.”

The city sent additional samples to the MOE to assess the source and levels of the site’s metals and organic compounds, the “receptors” — vegetation, animals and humans that would be affected, and the “pathways” in which the source would get to the receptors, Bingham said.

They are now in discussion with the ministry about what the monitoring protocol will look like going forward, he said.

Long before email or the Internet was in popular use PIs have been locating bail jumpers and run away teenagers and tracing people down who use pay phones and fake Ids. This is not unfamiliar ground for private investigators.

The examination of the header and IP address is one step in an email trace investigation but it is only one step among many steps. So even if you do not have the headers the PI can usually trace the email successfully anyway. many times the PI can obtain the headers for you. But even without headers there are still many steps in an email trace investigation that will still result in obtaining the name and address and phone number behind an anonymous email account.
