Don't bother getting the car washed today. There's still a chance of showers for most of the day, the National Weather Service informs us. Going to the Juneteenth Festival Saturday? The morning sunshine will look good, but don't let it fool you. The on-and-off rain is due back later in the day. It should dry out again for Father's Day on Sunday, but only temporarily. And for the first day of summer on Monday -- more scattered showers. Temperatures? Right where we want them. Daytime highs around 80, overnight lows near 60.

Buffalo was in its Golden Era when construction began 100 years ago today on the Larkin Terminal Warehouse at 726 Exchange St., right across Seneca Street from the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Larkin Administration Building, which was started five years earlier. That architectural masterpiece was demolished in 1950. The warehouse, which was not designed by Wright, lives on. During the past decade, it was converted into Class A offices and renamed The Larkin at Exchange Building.

Its centennial will be celebrated today with another epic construction project -- a replica of the 10-story structure made out of cake, complete with 2,200 windows, Larkin logos, the cell phone tower and the First Niagara sign. Zillycakes on Elmwood Avenue has spent all week creating it and the finished product will be on display this morning in the building's Chautauqua Cafe. Then, at noon, as part of the 100th anniversary celebration, it will be carved into 2,000 pieces for the building's tenants, employees and visitors.

Catholic Charities of Buffalo holds an open house from 2 to 5 p.m. to celebrate the renovation of its Kenmore-Tonawanda Office at 3370 Delaware Ave. There will be tours, refreshments and, at 3, brief remarks by Catholic Charities diocesan director Sister Mary McCarrick, OSF; CEO Dennis Walczyk; and director of metropolitan/district services Tish Brady.

What's offered at the office? A lot. Family and Youth Services including assessment and counseling. Referral and assistance with basic emergencies involving food, prescriptions and utilities. Services for victims of domestic violence. Services that help parents and children deal with schools. And, of course, the WIC program, which provides food and referrals for moms and kids under 5 years old, a program that Erie County Executive Chris Collins abandoned as a county service.
