Susan R. Pollack Welcome Mat
Susan R. Pollack Welcome Mat Your weekly guide to the latest news in home furnishings, interior design and home improvement. Garden photo winnerNow is the best time of year for Karen Fielek's Okemos backyard, when the peonies bloom and steal the show from the purple irises, wild phlox, false indigo and columbine of spring. "We built this house 17 years ago and there was nothing — not a tree, shrub, anything other than a weed," writes Fielek, winner of this week's Homestyle garden photo contest. Now, with plenty of spruce, pine and blooming flowers, she notes, "We have this wonderful sheltered feeling in the yard and lots of birds."
And now it's your turn to enter: If all your hard work has rewarded you with a spectacular garden display, please share a photo. Each week, Homestyle will choose one great image and award a home or garden book; winners will have a chance at a grand prize from English Gardens at summer's end. Upload your photo at detnews.com/gardenphotos. Include your name, city and brief description of your green thumb handiwork. Or, send a snapshot and details to: Homestyle Garden Photo Contest c/o The Detroit News, 615 W. Lafayette Blvd., Detroit, MI 48226. Happy planting!
