Art Fair: Annual Arts Festival will be held June 18 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Center Street in historic downtown. The event will feature the work of over 70 juried artists, food vendors, entertainment throughout the day, children’s activities and a high school art exhibit. Admission is free. Libertyville

Car Fun: MainStreet Libertyville will host its second Car Fun on 21 event for the season June 22 from 6 to 9 p.m. on Church Street in downtown. In addition to classic cars 25 years and older, this month’s car show will feature vintage fire trucks from several surrounding communities. Listen to the sounds of Miss Demeanor and The Attitudes. Out to lunch: Every Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. starting June 24 until Aug. 19 there will be food vendors in Cook Park in downtown serving some of the tastiest food around. Create a Train Themed Bedroom

If you have a boy who loves trains, you should consider a train themed bedroom. There are different bedspreads, curtains, rugs, lamps, fans, wall decor, and even beds, to suit any budget.  When setting up any theme for a child, it’s best to “future proof” your hard work.   One mistake common with many parents is doing a theme or scheme that a child will outgrow within a year or so.  While your child may love trains now, but it’s hard to know if they’ll be as passionate about as they are now about trains next year.   When setting up a new bedroom or remodeling a room with a train theme, do it with the ability to take away or change things without tons of unneeded work.  For example, getting wallpaper with trains on it will not only be a pain to put up, but will be a pain when you have to eventually take it down.

Start off by painting or wall papering his room…but really think about painting instead of doing train wallpaper. Painting and adding locomotive decals may be a better idea than wall paper. You never know how long your boy will be attracted to trains, and he may want a different boys bedroom theme in a year or two. Periwinkle, marine blue, bright yellow, or green all look great, and you can add some black or colored decals. You can even get a plain or colorful border to go all the way around the room. One of the best borders looks like train tracks.  Some decals and colors will degrade gracefully to more basic themes as your boy grows up and eventually gets old enough that they would only would want white walls.

Adding a ceiling fan is a great way to keep your son’s room cool and ventilated. You can find decorated train fans that have removable blades. Once he tires of the train theme, you can replace them with something else. Most of them have a built-in ceiling light. Add a light switch cover in the shape of a railroad car, and get a desk lamp that looks like a caboose.

Since you are doing a train theme for your boys bedroom, you may as well go all out. Boys love to have friends over for the night (or if you have two sons who share a room), and a great an interesting addition to their room is a bunk bed that is shaped like a caboose or engine. You can buy one or build it yourself. Add some bright red bedspreads, and a couple of yellow and green train shaped throw pillows. Complete the look with some choo choo train sheets and pillowcases.
