Lowe's Grant to Help With Life Skills
Grant to East Brunswick Public Schools. With the funding, three classrooms, one each at East Brunswick High School, Churchill Junior High School and Hammarskjold Middle School, will be transformed into a home-like environment to teach life skills to students with multiple disabilities.The Lowe’s Life Skills Learning Labs, made possible with this funding, will allow the district to house a long-term, coordinated program of increasing complexity to help students master the skills necessary to become independent.
“This grant award will help us to better serve our most vulnerable students. We are so very grateful to Lowe’s for this generous funding that will allow us to educate students with significant disabilities within the district alongside their peers and neighbors in their own community,” said Jo Ann Magistro, superintendent of the East Brunswick Public Schools. “I also applaud Sharon Weber-Oleszkiewicz, Director of Special Education and Supervisors, Dr. Susan Meklune and Ellen Murphy for working with Lowe’s to make this possible.”

Lowe’s Toolbox for Education provides the financial tools to help improve schools throughout the United States. Lowe’s signature education grant program has donated $26 million to more than 5,900 K-12 public schools since 2005, benefitting more than 3.3 million schoolchildren.
Since its inception in 1957, Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation has helped communities nationwide through employee volunteerism and financial contributions. In 2010, Lowe’s and Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation together contributed more than $30 million to support community and education projects in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Software. At that time, I need to be able to see how my websites look like. When I first learned to use Homesite back in 1998, I thought it was so difficult to code my pages. But today, I am so familiar with it, I wouldn't want any other software. What I love most about Homesite is its many shortcut tools. It's one of the two tools in by toolbox I can't do without. /coldfusion with ColdFusion Studio which at that time was owned by Allarie. Then when Allarie was bought out by Adobe, ColdFusion Studio became Homesite and with a few updates was a fantastic piece of software. I would still run it today if I had only kept a backup CD in a safe place. I had it on my server in a software repository but all that was lost back in the big "Crash of 04" lol... Here's one that may interest people... I do a lot with databases, mainly MySql... Having cut my teeth many years ago on SQL Server, I found this application called SQLYog. It is basically a clone of the front end for SQL Server designed to work with MySql. It allows you to build complex queries visually by dragging tables into the query builder and linking columns with the click of a mouse button. You can specify what type of join you want and run the query to see what it will deliver. Try doing that with phpMyAdmin... To top it all off, I have a Linux server as my development platform. It runs the latest builds of Apache and MySql and allows me to have as many websites as I want in development. On it I have a "live" side, and a "staging" side. If I ever need to put anything live to demo for a client I simply direct a sub domain on published domain to my live server. I am no longer limited by my host provider to any specific number of databases or sites. Third, I have to say it has a lot of really clever design features. For example, I really love the way it color codes your tags. Any time you click inside a tag the opening and closing tags are marked with the same color highlighting. When you have div's inside div's, etc. it is sometimes hard to know what is what and this also makes it easier to spot errors. I mainly use Dreamweaver, Photoshop (Extended), Adobe Flash and have dabbled some in Fireworks. I also use Notepad on the side for simple things.
