Ohio State Trapshooting Tournament has showplace in Marengo that keeps on growing

MARENGO, OHIO
 The Cardinal Shooting Center is Ohio's showplace for the shotgun sports, and spectators are welcome for the week-long 125th annual Ohio State Trapshooting Tournament. A new OSTA Celebrity Trapshoot is joining the Scholastic Clay Target Program youth trapshooting competition to fire the first shots on Monday.

"With the shooters already pouring in, and all of the new facilities that have been created here, we're pretty excited about this year's shoot," said OSTA President Brad Dysinger of Grover Hill, a Hall of Fame trapshooter. "The Ohio State Shoot is now the second largest trapshooting event in the country, second only to the Grand American. We'll have as many as 1,500 shooters from more than 30 states competing on 52 trap ranges next week.

"Ohio now hosts the biggest state shoot in the country."

That rubs Dysinger the right way. The OSTA once held its state shoots at the Amateur Trapshooting Association grounds near Dayton, the long-time home of the prestigious Grand American World Trap Shooting Championships. When the ATA moved in 2006 to the state-built $50 million World Shooting Complex in southern Illinois, it could have been a major blow to the OSTA and trapshooting in the Buckeye State, which has a wealth of trapshooting clubs. 

 Breathing life into the Ohio trapshooting group was a partnership between the OSTA and Marengo landowners Jack and Karen Fishburn. They teamed to create one of the finest shotgunning facilities in the country, and at a more convenient location for Ohio shotgunners. The long line of trap ranges is visible from the highway at the crossroads of I-71 and State Rt. 61, between Mansfield and Columbus.

 "Sparta's Grand American is a destination for trapshooters," said Dysinger. "The Cardinal Shooting Center is a place to have fun and hang around for a while. We'll have the state shoot next week, and a whole lot more. Spectators can watch the top shooters, visit the new OSTA Trapshooting Museum & Hall of Fame or cruise the more than 70 shooting sports vendors on the grounds."

 The new sporting clays range is open, as well as an archery range. Trapshooters can test their skills breaking swifter targets at special Olympic-style trap ranges. The adjacent Cardinal Campground has more than 500 sites. There are fishing derbies for kids all next week at the campground pond, including prizes.

 There is no charge for parking or admission.

New Ohio Gun Range

We will have 18 Pistol 25 yard lanes and 18 Rifle 100 yard lanes.

The 83,000 square foot building will house both ranges, Gun Shop w/ onsite gun smith, 27,000 square feet of rental space for sports related events and banquets,

Five 225 square foot cabañas, a full restaurant that seats 140 people and a catering kitchen. We are also considering ammunition manufacturing to be housed here also.

This is a new structure with state of the art Mancom targeting systems and dividers. Imho, giving any more authority to the federal government regarding 2A matters is only giving them another inroad to further regulate and infringe on our 2A rights.

Indeed, one only has to look at the commerce clause…to realize just how far the federal government can stretch a limited authority!

I’d rather see the NRA stop paving this road to hell and work on de-regulating instead.
